“ Cause I’m a manhandlin’ panhandlin’post-holin’ high-rollin’ dust bowlin’ daddy. I ain’t got no blood in my veins, I just got them four lanes…” -Robert Earl Keen
I’m a music loving, community-building bachelor living a life focused on the environment. I share a kinship with all creatures great and small, least of all man, but I get along with people sometimes too. I like quiet nights listening to the rain, clouds rolling by, getting older, and high-proof liquor. I never drink to excess, but sometimes I think that’s all I don’t do to extremes; I like to go over the top. My friends keep me going, I miss my grandparents every day, my mom and sister keep me grounded, and my dog is really is my best friend, cliché or no. I was raised by committee, with Aunts and Uncles and Cousins pitching in to make me who I am as much as anyone. I don’t have a hometown and I won’t tell you my birthday or my sign. I try to remain humble, not to judge, and see people for their best attributes, with understanding. Every day, I’m not on the road, I wish I were, but having a warm bed to return to keeps me moving on. I’m a traveling fool, and I hope to be coming to visit you soon. My world revolves around improvement every day: a better me, a better community, a better you; I don’t know you, but I want to help you. My father once told me to leave a mark, to make sure that what I do is worthwhile; to make sure that the world is better for my having lived. I hope, at the end of each day, I made some improvements, no matter how small.
I like Easy, Rider, It’s a Wonderful Life, Aliens, Lost Boys, Star Wars (4-6), The Big Lebowski, The Princess Bride, The Iron Giant, and many more movies. I love to read and am always hoping someone will recommend a good book. If I had to pick some books, I’d probably go with Howard’s End, The House of the Spirits, Cryptonomicon, and stuff like that. I don’t really rank any non-fiction books among my favorites, but that’s about all I read these days. For TV, I stream White Collar, Psych, Bones, Burn Notice and Chuck. Music is a long list of favorites including the Black Keys, Beatles, Zep, CAKE, They Might Be Giants, Charlie Parker, John Coltrane, and many more, indeed this list could change daily as you’ll find out if you read my columns.
I’m an electrical engineer, solar installer, energy auditor, Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Accredited Professional (LEED AP). I owe it all to Greg Thomas of Performance Systems Development and the Clinton Foundation. I’m currently a graduate student studying climate modeling and effects of climate change at Texas Tech under Dr. Katharine Hayhoe. So far it’s been a great experience and I can’t say enough wonderful things about it. Still have questions, send me note or look at my rezy.
